Perkeo
Each time you leave the shop, Perkeo creates a Negative copy of one random consumable you are holding, whether it is a Tarot, Planet or Spectral card.
Effect: Creates a Negative copy of 1 random consumable card in your possession at the end of the shop
BalatroBuddy tier: S (Our opinion)
Perkeo makes a Negative copy of a random consumable each time you leave the shop in Balatro. Legendary, only from The Soul. How to get it and combos.
Cost: Not sold (The Soul only)
Rarity: Legendary
Category: Effect Jokers
Unlock requirement: Find this Joker from the Soul card.
Verdict
The only joker that produces genuinely unbounded scaling. Negative copies never take a slot, so the engine has no stopping point.
Why it works
- Negative consumables occupy no consumable slot. Every copy Perkeo makes is permanently free storage, so copies accumulate for the rest of the run with no ceiling.
- It fires on every shop exit, which is roughly three times per ante. That is a compounding rate no other legendary matches.
- Paired with the Observatory voucher, each held Planet copy is another X1.5 Mult on its poker hand. Six copies is 1.5^6 = X11.4, and the count never stops climbing.
- The duplicated card is chosen at random from what you are holding, which means you control it completely by controlling what you hold.
Joker placement
Position is irrelevant β Perkeo acts on leaving the shop, not during scoring. Put it wherever it does not break your additive-before-multiplicative ordering.
How to play
- Empty your consumable slots down to the ONE card you want duplicated before you leave the shop. Perkeo picks at random from your holdings, so holding a single card makes the pick deterministic. This is the entire skill of the card and it is almost never stated.
- Buy Observatory the moment you own Perkeo. Without it you are duplicating consumables for utility; with it you are duplicating a permanent X1.5 Mult.
- Pair with Telescope so Celestial packs reliably contain the Planet for your most-played hand, giving Perkeo a consistent target worth copying.
- Do not spend the Negative copies. Under Observatory they are worth more sitting in your consumable area than they are being used.
Combos
Observatory + Telescope
Each Negative copy of your hand's Planet is another X1.5 Mult. Four copies is X5.1, six is X11.4, ten is X57.7 β and the count only ever goes up.
Observatory gives X1.5 Mult for Planet cards held in your consumable area, matched to their poker hand. Negative copies never leave that area, so Perkeo turns a consumable into permanent multiplicative growth.
Ectoplasm
A steady supply of Negative editions for your other jokers, one per shop.
Ectoplasm adds Negative to a random joker at the cost of hand size. Perkeo replenishes it every shop, so you can keep converting jokers to Negative and effectively raise your joker slot cap.
Traps
- Perkeo with an empty consumable area does nothing at all. If your habit is to spend every Tarot the moment you draw it, you have turned a Legendary into a blank slot.
- Holding several different consumables when you leave the shop. The pick is random across everything you hold, so a full consumable area actively works against you.
- You cannot plan a run around Perkeo. It only comes from The Soul. Build as though you will never see it, and treat finding it as the run changing rather than the run starting.
Benchmarks
Ante 8
Usually overkill by Ante 8 β most Perkeo runs have already stopped being close by then.
Endless
The clearest path to Ante 12 and beyond. The requirement jumps from 14,400,000 at the Ante 11 boss to 600,000,000 at Ante 12, and an unbounded X1.5-per-copy engine is one of the few things that scales that fast.
How it works
Each time you leave the shop, Perkeo creates a Negative copy of one random consumable you are holding, whether it is a Tarot, Planet or Spectral card. Negative consumables take no slot, so the copy always fits. Perkeo is a Legendary joker that never appears in the shop, and Blueprint and Brainstorm can copy it.
How to unlock
Find it through The Soul Spectral card. Legendary jokers cannot be bought in the shop.
Copyable by Blueprint/Brainstorm
yes
Best combos
- Blueprint: Each copy makes another Negative consumable every shop.
- Brainstorm: Same effect from the leftmost slot.
- Campfire: Sell the free copies and Campfire gains X0.25 Mult per card sold.
- Constellation: Hold a Planet and every copy you use adds X0.1 Mult.
